Radio isn't for the faint of heart

I’ve been reading a book about the history of radio, and I’ve got to say…I don’t quite know what I’ve gotten myself into.

There is so much about broadcasting I still need to learn, and yet it seems the quickest, easiest, and best way to learn it is to just jump right in and do it.

Tell stories for a couple hours a day. Take callers, and invite them to share a bit of their heart. Let an idea develop, live, while thousands of people are (hopefully) listening.

It’s thrilling, to be honest. And a ton of fun.

In just two weeks, we’ve had a number of guests share some amazing things on The Katie McGrady Show.

Emily Wilson, Mary Pezzulo, Tim O’Malley, Olga Segura, Bumi Latidan, and Chloe Langr have shared about their new books, which span the gamut from the Eucharist, racism in the Church today, the feminine genius, and daily prayer.

Sr. Josephine Garrett helped us understand how “covid kids” are resilient, even as they’ve dealt with a year of uncertainty, and Vanesa Zuleta Goldberg explained TikTok and the phenomenon of the Gen-Z creatives.

Fr. Mike Schmitz talked about how much time goes into his daily “Bible In A Year” Podcast, and Alex Jones of the Hallow App told us the story of how he came up with the popular Catholic meditation/prayer app.

New Catholic Tsh Oxenreider shared how she arrived at “swimming the Tiber” and joining the Church, and Justina Kopp talked about journeying to Kenya with four children.

We’ve talked about cancel culture, how to recommit to our Lenten sacrifices, what it means to be a person of persistent prayer, mental health, and the Vatican’s newest statement on same-sex unions.

Needless to say (but I’m going to say it anyway) we’ve had a lot of life giving conversations and dug into some amazing topics, and I have no doubt that will continue.
